I will say, all the employees and even the security guards were very pleasant and efficient. They answered any questions they could and even helped out the Spanish speaking people as well. I arrived early around 11:50am for my 12:10pm appointment and I did not get seen until 2:05pm. I just needed a new ss card so from the time I was called, sat seen and left, it was less than 2 min. At 2:07pm I was walking out the door. Apparently they were dealing with a Government shut down so a lot of things they were not able to access and a lot of people had to leave because they were not going to be able to be given any information. Also, they do NOT take walk-ins. An APPOINTMENT ONLINE MUST BE MADE!

I highly recommend booking an appointment beforehand, as it made the entire process smooth and efficient. The staff was incredibly helpful, professional, and courteous throughout my visit. This office doesn’t even deserve 1 star. However, my husband and I have had to come here TWICE because my newborn son doesn’t have an assigned social security # despite being born in Mecklenburg county. The case rep told us that our son’s information “may have slipped thru the cracks” while his information was being sent over electronically from the hospital he was born at LAST AUGUST! What does that even mean?!!! We submitted the necessary documents to get the ball rolling, given a letter of confirmation and told it would be 4 weeks for verification. Well, here it is 4 weeks later and I called the main SSA #. There was no case found for my son! My husband and I walked in to this location and the security guard gave the letter of confirmation to the front desk rep. She then said the case was with homeland security being verified and would take 4 or MORE weeks! I called the main SSA # back again and was given an appointment for another SSA location an hour away from me in ALBEMARLE. I went to that office today and they were welcoming at best! The rep took the reference # and got in contact with this Charlotte office- here’s the kicker…..the rep at this Charlotte office said her computer isn’t working and that my son’s birth certificate hadn’t been reviewed yet!! It’s been 4 weeks and nothing has been touched! The Albemarle office rep got in contact with someone higher up at the Coronation Blvd location and they said now it will be verified within 10 days! So my son’s information has just been sitting there on someone’s desk?!. The level of competency is extremely low at Coronation Blvd. Instead of this particular rep talking so much and making slick comments, she should be more focused on submitting paperwork CORRECTLY AND EFFICIENTLY! My 7-month old son doesn’t deserve this and is technically undocumented here in America even though he was born in Mecklenburg County. All he needs is a SSN! Thank you to the office in ALBEMARLE who actually took time to look into my case and get this escalated. If my son’s information isn’t verified this time around and it causes tax implications because they’re not filed by the April 15th deadline, my husband and I will escalate this further! My advice is get rid of the staff member who’s handing my case. She can’t be trusted and is unable to bring solutions to those of us who need it most. My question is, what if the shoe was on the other foot? Where’s the empathy and level of human connection?! I’m disgusted and have nothing else to say!

January 7th I made an online appointment for Feb 6th. They didn’t have any appointments available in January , but they did have appointments earlier in February. I chose the 6th for personal reasons. My appointment was at 9AM , the office also opens at 9AM . There was a line outside when I got there at 8:45 . I used the online link to check in that I was there . They let us in the building before 9AM . I sat down for about 5 minutes , at 9:03AM , I was called to the back , 9:10AM I was walking out of there! I just went to change my last name . I brought my marriage certificate, my license , my birth certificate, and my printed SSC application . The security were really nice and so was the lady that reviewed my documents .

I made an appointment about 6 weeks prior to me going to SSA. I had a great experience! Arrived ~30 minutes early to my 10:50am appointment and was able to be seen within 10 minutes of my appointment time. I was out by 11:15! MAKE AN APPOINTMENT and bring all correct documents!!! They only take walk in’s for a select few services and I overheard the wait time was 4-5 hours!
